"Bark 'n' Bite"
8x8" acrylic on wood
(C) Cara Bevan 2009
I experimented with this painting and a happy accident resulted. It involved speckling, a technique where
paint is dripped or slung onto the artwork with a stiff paintbrush or toothbrush. After I painted a base
color, I used a toothbrush to splatter five layers of colors onto the artwork. This created an interesting
pitted texture, perfect for tree bark. . Look closely and you’ll see why I called it “Bark and Bite.”
