I had in mind this idea to make unusual backgrounds, like strings of
aura, that move and flow like it's alive. They vary in color and width.
They're created at random - I do not decide what it looks like. The paint
does. That lack of control is a bit scary for me (being the detail nut I
am), but I thought that if I could combine this free-flowing background
with a realistic subject I can have the best of both worlds. A sense of
freedom, and a sense of control.

As I stared at the pattern the paint had created, I noticed the small
notch at the top. Looked like an antler perhaps? A deer! No, a fawn.
Not having grown into his horns yet. An innocent youth.

Do animals dream? I bet they do. Not just dreaming in sleep, but yearning. Wanting things they don't have,
desiring what they've had before but can't get. Makes me wonder what each of my animals dream of.

This painting is another one of my random creations. The background is part of my marbling series. Instead of
a complex series of lines, this one became blooming circles of varying greens. Every time I looked at it though I
thought of a collection of greenery. So then came a little eastern box turtle, and he's in a field of dreams.
Marbling
Marbling is a technique I created that involves multiple colors of acrylic paint swirled together in a liquid form. The colors will run, bloom,
or speckle to create unexpected patterns. I have little control over the outcome as they bleed in various directions. It's an exciting
process that I love doing. They're usually paired with a realistic animal or subject. The color and pattern of the unpredictable marbling
inspires the animal or scene that gets applied. I never know what will inspire the next creation!

I tried to recreate the blooming effect in "Lettuce Fetish", but try as I
might I couldn't. Instead this pleasant brown marbling wiggled and
waved and became splattered with dots. I felt like an amphibian was
in order, thus came "Toadally".
On a blistery winter's night, a wolf pack makes a game of hunting a
rabbit. They're seeking the crafty prey in the deep snow. It's hunkered
down and hiding the best it can. It's going to be a close game.

When the winter subsides and spring has sprung, so do little adventurous bunnies from their dens. The
leaves glow with the sun's warmth and the earth is light and beautiful. One little bunny is white...not albino,
but leusistic, meaning 'lack of color'. They're looking at some strange new arrival to Spring.
This seemingly dark and moody slate grey bloom gave way to a powerful and noble
guardian. Bighorn rams are amazing creatures and are certainly kings of their
mountainous retreats. This ram is guarding his own post in the rocky abyss.

The budgies began as something of a cover up...for an unsightly part of the marbling
(a daring vertical line I didn't like). Though as I painted brightly colored budgies to
contradict the muddy green marbling, they began to take on a life of their own. I can
hear them chirping and singing in their own little chorus.
